Russian Federation

Russland

Russia (Россия/Rossija) is the largest country in the world with a population of 145 million inhabitants. It has enormous wealth but unfortunately,  unequally distributed ,  specially in its agricultural regions  and Countryside  the poverty is omnipresent. According to statistics, nearly 700.000 children live in orphanages and more than 2 million children live in the streets. In the summer this number increases to 4 million. In order to earn money these children are obliged to beg and steal. To supplement their daily bread they engage in the distribution of drugs and prostitution. The growing use of alcohol by their parents, domestic violence and social problems throws children into the streets. Each year 600.000 children lose one of their parents, 1.5 million have never gone to school, 90 % of homeless children smoke (according to the Red Cross), nearly 30% are drug users, broth magic mushrooms and sniff petrol with acetone.  Crime, rape, and even Suicide  is the outcome among these children. The number of  children infected with HIV is increasing. Sadly they have no hope for normal life. There is no future for these children.

The Vorontsovo Project

In the hearts of Russia, in the Pskov Region (700km from Moscow), in a small Village called Vorontsovo,  a national Orphanage is located. 92 children  ages ranking from 7 to 18 years are currently living there. The money from the funds covers their food, but all other costs (clothing, school material, hygiene products, etc. ) cannot be covered. This Orphanage has never been visted by sponsors, the far location makes it difficult to visit.

Our Goal
The long term goal of this project is to provide the financial support to improve the  living standard of these children. The children are urgently in need of new beds and lockers. There is a great lack of schoolequipment, as well as daily equipment such as shampoo, soap, brush, toothbrush etc.
Through sponsorships, kleine herzen wants to enable these children who live in closed  institutions the opportunity to get to know a life outside of the Orphanage. To have a chance of finding friends who support them and  dearly care about them and their problems.

Our Success
kleine herzen has managed to win a long term sponsor for this Orphanage. The US  company Chembridge Corporation, who has assured a frequent aid for the children. Currently we are questing for Sponsors to communicate with the Russian  children via mail correspondence ,  to give them the opportunity to learn something about the life outside of the orphanage.
