The United Nation Women’s Guild (UNWG) sponsors 2 children’s projects in Russia and the Ukraine

June 2010 - The Charity Review Committee of the United Nation Women’s Guild  (UNWG) approved the sponsoring of 2 kleine herzen children’s projects, one in Ukraine and one in Russia for  a grant of 7000 Euro.

The donation finances the renovation of a small carpentry workshop and the purchase of carpentry equipment for our charity center for street children "QUO VADIS“ in Berdjansk, Ukraine, and  the  purchase of carpentry equipment  for our boarding school for orphans in Vorontsovo, Russia.  kleine herzen is very grateful  to the UNWG and his members  for their generous donation.

The project in the Ukraine
Children living on the street urgently need to get psychological support, basic education and learn a profession which will give them the chance of a decent life. The Caritas-spes charity center for street children “QUO VADIS” in Berdjansk chose Carpentry owing to great interest shown by the children themselves in that particular profession. They can appreciate the results of their work, be motivated and sell their own products.  The center has a local carpentry teacher but does not have the appropriate room or the necessary equipment. The Center needed our financial help in order to set up a carpentry room and purchase the necessary equipment. About 20 boys from 12 to 18-years can benefit from this project.

The project in Russia
Most of Russian orphans have social and learning delays. Because of lacking education, many young people leaving orphanages fail to make the transition to independence successfully.  Vorontsovo state Orphanage is situated not far from Pskov, 700 km North West from Moscow. 103 orphaned children from 7 to 18 years old are currently living in the orphanage; 25 of those children are invalids. The orphanage includes a boarding school where the children begin to learn a profession. Girls learn to sew and the boys learn carpentry.

The necessary equipment for teaching carpentry to the children is very old and does not correspond any longer to the current standard. Children need urgently new equipment in order to get a better training. After finishing the school, these children can then practice the profession of carpenter and have a chance to live a descent life. The Orphanage needed our financial help to purchase the technical equipment. About 35 boys can benefit from this project.
