Big Success: The OPEC Fund for International Development - OFID supports the renovation of our summer camp for children in need in Yablunitsa, Ukraine

Yablunitsa

The summer camp of Yablunitsa is situated in the Carpathian Mountains in the region of Ivano-Frankivsk and has been established in 1993 with the aim to support children affected by the Chernobyl catastrophe. The camp offers today to orphans, children from very poor families and sick children curative holidays with clinical and therapeutic supports.  This summer more than 900 children enjoyed holidays in the camp of Yablunitsa for a period of 15 days.

For the sustainable operation of the camp, the installation of an efficient low-cost heating system to supply the main buildings and the wooden houses is urgently needed. It would reduce dramatically the high electricity expenses in winter and allows the camp to be opened all the year.

kleine herzen and Caritas-Spes Ukraine are very thankful to the OPEC Fund for International Cooperation - OFID for its generous grant of 100.000 US$.

With this grant, the project can be completed and the new heating system can be operational beginning with the holiday season 2011.

The OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) is  an intergovernmental development finance institution which seeks to promote cooperation between member states of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and other developing countries. It does this mainly by providing financial resources to assist the latter group of countries in their economic and social advancement.
